Mental workout (Unit 4)

Hello all!

I found this experience very difficult because it was so monotone and dry.  I feel as if this would just irritate me more than make me more relaxed or sleepy.  I wouldn't recommend this to others because of the dry content and boring level of this.
The concept of a mental workout is to get your mind thinking and relaxed completely to really work out the ordeals going on in your mind.  Research shows that by doing this that it is beneficial to the individuals and is good for overall health.  Although I wouldn't use this particular mp3 to share with others.

Hi David:) I agree with you. This almost put me to sleep. I have done other exercises like this one, without the feeling of boredom. Hopefully you were able to enjoy some sense of peace-along with the boredom:) I would not encourage someone to use this-I have definitely used better exercises to gather a sense of loving-kindness. Good luck to you!

Hey David, I have to say that this exercise was more difficult than the others. There were a lot of instructions and I forgot what all I was supposed to do when the person stopped talking. I could also tell when the recorded waves started over and it was hard to think. I would have liked a longer playing recording of a stream or something. It was also hard to imagine inhaling the pain of others and it disappearing in my heart. My heart is overwhelmed at times with its own pain. I am curious though if I kept at it that it would begin to make sense and I would learn how to accept the pain. It is just new to me and new things are sometimes difficult for everyone. It will be interesting to see how much we learn in the weeks that are left. Christina

David, I actually agree with your assessment. I did find it was irritating and I tried several times to complete the exercise but did not. I felt like it was also to lengthy. I have more productive ways that I actively engage in loving kindness. I think the moral of the story is that most people get great benefit and satisfaction from helping others in life. So as far as this weeks exercise goes I completely agree with you.

David,
Thank you for sharing your experiences in Unit 4. I also found the exercise hard to follow and boring. Mental exercises are very beneficial but we just need to find one that works best for us. Every individual has their own preference.
